SDSN Youth Dialogue Studio

In the current realm of young generation in Indonesia, we can see more youth-led and youth focused organisations compare to five or ten years ago. However, this does not come without challenges. For instance, only few or youth organisations that are really addressing issues based on grounded research - majority are only responding to symptoms. Although many organisations are focusing on similar areas of interest, they do not necessarily team up with each other. The plethora of youth initiatives is also often overlooked by government and business sectors. As a result, their access to funding and other resources such as knowledge and skills are limited, making it harder for them to sustain both their organisations and initiatives in the long run.

To achive the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), all sectors in our society (government, businesses, CSOs, academics) need to synergise their efforts. Youth today are leaders tomorrow who will be decision makers in all these sectors. Therefore, it is important to cultivate the culture of collaboration again among themselves to ensure the sustainable development goals can be achieved. Youth potentially hold a strategic position in bridging the current policy makers with the larger society. But to be able to take this role, they need to be more empowered to become a reliable partner of other sectors, such as government and businesses.

United in Diversity (UID) view these challenges as an opportunity to contribute through a platform, SDSNYouth Dialogue Studio. It is designed as an invitation for future leaders from various youth organisations to have dialogues in which UID facilitating the process of building their collective leadership capacity, catalysing the process of building the common trust, and fostering future collaboration between them.

A series of youth dialogue studio facilitated by United in Diversity (UID) will be held in collaboration with SDSN IndonesiaMEDCO Foundation, and a youth-led organisation Indonesian Future Leaders (IFL). The first series will be started with the future leaders (youth) first, and then eventually will get to a much larger dialogue studio where we invite older generations and have the conversations with the future leaders.

Objectives

  1. To raise a new awareness of the future leaders about the SDGs;
  2. To enable the future leaders, which age 18-30, and give a new frame of thinking/narrative in looking at the challenges in achieving SDGs;
  3. To bridge the conversation among the future leaders and between the future leaders and the older generations in order to synergise their efforts to create better impact on the society;
  4. To identify and explore youth initiatives, practical actions, aspirations, and also possible collaborative Sustainable Oriented Solutions in achieving SDG.

UID will facilitate the process by:
