We are excited to start the journey again with the next cohort of BEKAL Pemimpin! The 2nd cohort is scheduled to begin in the 2nd quarter of 2021 as a fully online program to accommodate our current limitation to travel and convene. However, should circumstances change we also hope to be able to convene participants for in-person learning as soon as it is adequately safe to do—in which case travel expenses will be fully provided by the program.

Learning journey overview

The second cohort will be running for 5 months starting in early April 2021, and will be accepting up to 50 participants from across sectors and regions of Indonesia. The program will be delivered in Bahasa Indonesia as its instructional medium.



Please note that attendance is mandatory to be eligible for a certificate of completion.

We invite young leaders who are proactively promoting sustainable natural capital and environmental management, with a calling to improve your capacity to deal with more complexity of current and future challenges, and having high commitment to collaboratively go through processes in positive and sustainable change, to join our learning journey for the 2021 cohort of BEKAL Pemimpin.

Who we are seeking:

• Early to mid-career leaders aged between 25-40 years old, or with 5-10 years of leadership and organizational experience.
• Is working on issues with significant impact on the management and use of natural capital,
• Represents various sectors of society, including but not limited to:
  • Central, provincial and district governments;
  • Local, national, and multinational business actors;
  • Local and indigenous communities;
  • Local and international NGOs;
  • Social entrepreneurship (social enterprise);
  • Academics and researchers; and
  • The media.
• Is experienced in dealing with complex issues with diverse stakeholders in the context of natural capital management.
• Has a clear vision for sustainable and equitable natural capital management for Indonesia, and an awareness of how he or she might contribute to this vision through their personal and professional/institutional presence.
• Expected to grow rapidly in terms of leadership influence in the next 5-10 years.

• Four short essays (each no more than 250 words), which cover the following:
  • A brief summary of your current role and responsibilities in your organization. Please include:
    • The field of natural capital management that you are working in,
    • What you do in this field, and the stakeholders that you work with,
    • Your challenges in this role, including in working with other stakeholders.
  • Your source of energy, motivation, and inspiration. Expand a bit more on your vision and aspirations for yourself, your organization, or your community.
  • What you consider to be Indonesia’s main assets and capital in creating a sustainable and equitable future, and how you might contribute in your personal and professional capacity to realize this potential.
  • How the program would contribute or help you in your leadership journey 
• Two  contactable professional referees who can verify your information. If you work in a structured organization, one of the referees must be the person that you report to.
