GBFA Unites ASEAN-China Leaders in Bali for Blended Finance Capacity Building24 January 2024


Denpasar (Kura Kura Bali) - United In Diversity (UID) Foundation collaborated with Global Blended Finance Alliance's (GBFA) main partners, the International Forum for Impact Investment in China (IFCII), the Chinese Academy for Financial Inclusion (CAFI), and the Philanthropy Network Asian Ventures (AVPN), successfully held the G20 Bali, GBFA capacity building at UID Bali Campus, Kura Kura Bali on Tuesday 23 January 2023. 

Attended by Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs (KEMENKOMARVES) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Minister of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia (BAPPENAS) Suharso Monoarfa, Deputy Minister of Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BUMN) Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Special Envoy of the G20 Bali GBFA Prof. Mari Elka Pangestu, President of UID Foundation, Tantowi Yahya, CEO of the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) Naina Subberwal Batra, Consul General - Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar ZHU, Secretary General, International Forum for Impact Investment China (IFFCII) BEI Duoguang, as well as other delegates from governments, companies, and organizations both at home and abroad, delegates are invited to have a unified understanding, so that each stakeholder has the same goal for implementing blended finance. 

Through this event, Tantowi Yahya, President of the UID Foundation invited the delegates from China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), to have a unified understanding, so that each stakeholder has the same goal for implementing blended finance. "This activity is not only to learn from each other but also to provide opportunities for collaboration and partnership", Tantowi said.

He also hopes that this event to become an opportunity to explore investment opportunities in various regions of Asia. "This program is a unique opportunity, many influential leaders in China and ASEAN were present to share their experiences, and learnings, and contribute collectively to the development of the implementation of blended finance, especially in the Asian region,” He added. 

These activities were welcomed and supported by the Ministry of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia (BAPPENAS). "Bappenas will support every effort to continue to strengthen, implement, and carry out everything related to GBFA, including similar activities carried out today," said by Minister Suharso. 

He also hopes this event can help the efforts to realize the importance of blended finance, especially in Indonesia. "Blended finance, when viewed from the BUMN side, can reduce investment risk, and can mobilize more capital for Indonesia and the implementation of the SDGs," he added.

Blended Finance is a new concept to China and neighboring Asian countries, as such the G20 Bali GBFA-China-ASEAN Capacity Building on Blended Finance is an opportunity for Chinese stakeholders to learn and discover investing opportunities in ASEAN countries. The event aims to inform of best practices on impact integrity and transparency as well as to encourage South-South cooperation through the mobilization of capital towards sustainable development via blended finance.
